Bogor minivans facing crackdown<\/p>\n
BOGOR (JP): The Land Transportation Agency (DLLAJ) here has
\nwarned drivers of 180 public transportation minivans, locally
\ncalled angkot, in the past two months for violating various
\nregulations.<\/p>\n
But from now on, according to the head of the town's DLLAJ
\nbranch, Ridwan, all violators would be fined in line with the
\nexisting laws.<\/p>\n
\"Previously, we just wanted to remind them that they have to
\nhave the required documents to operate their vehicles.<\/p>\n
That's why we later released them,\" Ridwan said.<\/p>\n
Some drivers did not have proper documents for their routes or
\ntheir permits had expired while others had the required route
\npermits but failed to show other necessary papers, he said.<\/p>\n
The stiff measures against the public transportation violators
\nwould be taken for the sake of the passengers and the public as a
\nwhole.<\/p>\n
Owners' ignorance or refusal to complete the documents of
\ntheir angkot could hamper the development plan in Bogor due to
\nhitting its earnings, Ridwan said.<\/p>\n
\"Besides, the existence of the unlicensed public minivans
\ncould easily provoke the legitimate drivers to stage a rally (to
\nprotest their illegal rivals),\" he said.<\/p>\n
In early October, dozens of angkot drivers plying the Bojong
\nGede-Kampung Rambutan route held a noisy protest in Cimanggis,
\ndemanding the local authorities crack down on their unlicensed
