PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has announced plans to electrify the Bogor-Sukabumi line to extend KRL commuter services. The expansion aims to increase passenger capacity and integrate Sukabumi more effectively into the Jabodetabek transport network.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has revealed plans to expand the
Jabodetabek Electric Train (KRL) network to Sukabumi, West Java. This
project is part of a major development of the commuter line network to
increase passenger transport capacity, which has been steadily growing
in recent years.

The President Director of PT KAI (Persero), Bobby Rasyidin, stated
that in addition to extending KRL services from Cikarang to Cikampek,
the company is preparing the electrification of the Bogor-Sukabumi line
so that it can be served by KRL. “We are extending our commuter line
from Cikarang to reach Cikampek. Furthermore, we will also develop the
Bogor-Sukabumi route, which will also become part of the KRL network,”
Bobby said during a Hearing Meeting (RDP) with Commission VI of the
Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) at the Parliament Complex,
Jakarta, on Wednesday (3/6/2026).

This plan is one of KAI’s steps to expand the reach of rail-based
mass transport services in the Jakarta buffer zones. If realised, the
people of Sukabumi will be able to enjoy KRL services integrated with
the Jabodetabek network. According to Bobby, the development of the new
line will be accompanied by an increase in train sets to ensure
transport capacity continues to rise. However, to support this, KAI must
also add supporting facilities, such as depots for maintenance and fleet
storage.

“As we add these train sets, we will certainly require depots;
therefore, we will build or expand depots in Rangkasbitung, Cikarang,
and Bogor,” he said. In addition to depot construction and expansion,
KAI is also preparing other infrastructure developments, including the
extension of station platforms and the construction of stabling tracks
or train parking areas. These facilities are necessary to accommodate
the additional fleet that will operate at night or when not in use.

Through this series of developments, KAI aims to significantly
increase the capacity of Jabodetabek KRL services over the next five
years. Currently, the number of daily KRL passengers has reached
approximately 1.3 million during peak periods. “By 2030, we will be able
to carry around 1.5 million to 1.6 million passengers per day.
Currently, our peak is at 1.3 million,” he concluded.
",
