Bogor hospital cuts old trees<\/p>\n
BOGOR, West Java (JP): Bogor's PMI Hospital has cut the
\nbranches of six large trees standing along the hospital's
\nentrance to protect the hospital from storms.<\/p>\n
The cutting project's supervisor, Aday, said yesterday the
\nhospital decided to have the old mahoni (Swietenia mahagoni)
\ntrees cut after storms hit Bandung and Jakarta.<\/p>\n
\"We don't want any accidents. The other day a tree trunk fell
\non the roof of the hospital,\" Aday said.<\/p>\n
Storms in Jakarta on Sunday claimed four lives. Another storm
\nhit Bandung last week, damaging many cars and houses.<\/p>\n
The trees were left about eight meters high without any
\nbranches causing what was a shady area to be hot. \"In the next
\nfive years the tress will grow more beautifully,\" Aday said.<\/p>\n
An environmentalist, Otto Sumarwoto, said in the past written
\npermits from the Botanical Gardens had to be obtained by those
\nwanting to cut trees in Bogor.<\/p>\n
The head of the Bogor Tourism Office, Diani Budiarto, said
\nyesterday a permit from the mayor was still needed.<\/p>\n
It is unknown if the state-owned PMI Hospital had a permit
\nbefore the six old trees were cut. (24)<\/p>",
