        "content": "<p>Bogor for gender equality<\/p>\n<p>Theresia Sufa, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>The government has appointed Bogor regency to implement a pilot<br>\nproject to promote gender equality between men and women in local<br>\npolicymaking.<\/p>\n<p>Two other regions participating in the project are Tapin and<br>\nTanah Laut regencies, both in South Kalimantan.<\/p>\n<p>Chairwoman of Gender Awareness for Administrative Affairs<br>\n(TPTG) Rini Soerojo said that the program was aimed at<br>\nencouraging women to be actively involved in drafting development<br>\nplans in local governments.<\/p>\n<p>TPTG is an institute under the supervision of the Office of<br>\nthe State Minister for Women's Empowerment.<\/p>\n<p>Rini said Bogor was appointed to carry out the TPTG program<br>\nbecause of its proximity to the national capital Jakarta, while<br>\nthe two other regencies were chosen for the pilot program because<br>\nwomen make up the majority population there.<\/p>\n<p>In Tapin, she added, women account for 60 percent of the total<br>\npopulation.<\/p>\n<p>According to Sri, to actively involve women in decision making<br>\nprocesses, they must have broad knowledge of various issues.<\/p>\n<p>She said that the objective of her organization was to involve<br>\nwomen in designing development plans in various agencies.<\/p>\n<p>TPTG's consultant Joanne Frindiville of Canada said that the<br>\nAsian Development Bank (ADB) had given contributions worth<br>\nUS$400,000 in grants to finance technical assistance for the TPTG<br>\nprogram.<\/p>\n<p>She said there are several objectives of ADB's grant including<br>\nthe improvement of women's participation in decision making<br>\nprocesses, and to improve gender awareness among development<br>\nworker in Indonesian regions.<\/p>\n<p>She said the TPTG program in Tapin and Tanah Laut regencies<br>\nreceived strong support from local legislative councils.<\/p>\n<p>But she said she did not know the stance of the Bogor  Council<br>\nover the program because she had not met with Bogor councillors.<\/p>\n<p>\"I have long proposed to have a meeting with the councillors,<br>\nbut there has yet to be a response,\" she added.<\/p>",
