Bogor 'angkot' drivers strike<\/p>\n
BOGOR (JP): More than 400 angkot (public minivan) drivers went
\non strike on Monday in protest at the operations of illegal
\nminivans on their routes, leaving thousands of passengers
\nstranded on the Cibinong-Bogor highway.<\/p>\n
Bogor Police had to deploy trucks to serve the stranded
\ncommuters.<\/p>\n
\"We have deployed seven trucks to carry all the passengers,\"
\nBogor Police chief Lt. Col. Ade Husen told reporters.<\/p>\n
The drivers of the 08 route plying from Cibinong Pasar to
\nAnyar said they were angry over the presence of too many minivans
\non the Cibinong-Bogor highway, most of which have no legal
\nlicenses.<\/p>\n
\"There are more than 1,300 angkot serving the route out of a
\nrecommended limit of 800,\" a protesting driver, Tagor, said.<\/p>\n
He accused officials of the Bogor Traffic and Land
\nTransportation Agency of allowing the illegal minivans to
\noperate.<\/p>\n
\"The officials haven't taken any action yet to solve this
\nproblem,\" he said.<\/p>\n
An agency official, however, denied the allegation.<\/p>\n
\"We have monitored at least 100 illegal minivans operating on
\nthe route,\" the official, Soebiantoro, told reporters. \"We have
\ndifficulties in netting the illegal minivans as they disappear
\neach time we raid them.\"<\/p>\n
The 08 public minivan drivers also forced intercity buses to
\njoin in with their strike.<\/p>\n
The bus drivers reluctantly followed suit fearing that minivan
\ndrivers might damage their buses. (21\/nvn)<\/p>",
