In response to the global energy crisis, the Indonesian-made alternative fuel Bobibos has held an audience with the Directorate General of Oil and Gas under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, presenting its readiness for advanced testing. The fuel, derived from agricultural waste like straw, claims zero emissions and improved efficiency, potentially reducing fuel import dependency and providing economic benefits to farmers. Officials have outlined upcoming road tests on vehicles and emphasised the need for technical evaluations and licensing before commercialisation.

Amid the pressures of the global energy crisis, domestic innovation
in alternative fuels is entering government discussions. The product
named Bahan Bakar Orisinil Buatan Indonesia Bos (Bobibos) recently held
an audience with the Directorate General of Oil and Gas (Ditjen Migas)
of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on Monday (13/4). In the
meeting, the developers outlined the readiness of their product for the
next stage of testing. “We have tested it on several brands of
motorcycles, cars, and diesel vehicles. The claim is zero emissions and
more efficient fuel consumption,” said Iklas in an official statement on
Monday (13/4/2026). Bobibos mentor, Mulyadi, explained that the main raw
material of this product comes from straw, agricultural waste that is
often burned. According to him, utilising straw can provide added value
for farmers after the harvest season. “After harvest, the straw which
previously had no value can become an additional source of economy,”
said Mulyadi. He also assessed that if developed widely, this innovation
has the potential to reduce dependence on fuel imports, while opening
new job opportunities and curbing the environmental impact of fossil
fuels. Based on the audience results, Dirjen Migas Laode Sulaeman
emphasised that every alternative fuel innovation must still go through
technical testing stages before it can be used widely. In that
opportunity, it was conveyed that testing will focus on direct use in
vehicles, both two-wheeled and four-wheeled. In addition, Ditjen Migas
is also said to assign the Director of Oil and Gas Technical and
Environment, Noor Arifin Muhammad, to lead a technical team together
with the developers to discuss the needs and required testing methods.
Still in the same forum, the government also reminded the importance of
fulfilling licensing aspects, especially if the fuel product is to be
marketed commercially. The planned road test will be the initial stage
to test performance and emission claims, before the fuel is further
considered as a domestic energy alternative.
",
