'Bob' Hasan asks for judicial review<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Timber tycoon Mohamad \"Bob\" Hasan, who is serving a
\nsix year jail term for corruption, appeared on Thursday at the
\nCentral Jakarta District Court to file a request to the Supreme
\nCourt to review his case.<\/p>\n
Hasan, a former minister in the New Order regime, is currently
\nbeing held at Nusakambangan Penitentiary, located off the coast
\nof Cilacap, a town in Central Java.<\/p>\n
The Central Jakarta District Court in February this year
\nsentenced Hasan to two years imprisonment and ordered him to pay
\ncompensation of Rp 14 billion.<\/p>\n
He appealed to the high court, and as a result was sentenced
\nto six years in jail and had to pay compensation of some US$
\n243.7 billion. The sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n
Hasan, a former chairman of the Association of Indonesian
\nForest Concessionaires (APHI), was found guilty of corruption
\nin relation to a project involving the aerial mapping of forest
\nconcessions. The state suffered some US$75.62 million in losses
\nas the Ministry of Forestry had financed the project through
\nforestry funds.<\/p>\n
His lawyer, Chairunnisa Jafizham, presented new pieces of
\nevidence to the hearing on Thursday, including an audit report
\nand documents supposedly testifying to Hasan's innocence.<\/p>\n
Prosecutor Arnold Angkouw will present his response on Jan.
