ABU DHABI \u2014 Nickolay Mladenov, the High Representative of the Board\nof Peace (BoP) for Gaza, has said that a two-state solution cannot be\nachieved unless the situation in Gaza improves. The crisis in Gaza has\nbeen accompanied by rising settler violence against Palestinians in the\nWest Bank.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would say that if Gaza continues as it is now, or does not move\ntowards the implementation\u2026 of the plans we have under the comprehensive\nplan, the two-state solution will become practically impossible,\u201d\nMladenov said whilst speaking at the Hili Forum in Abu Dhabi, United\nArab Emirates, on Monday (7 September 2026), as quoted by the Al Arabiya\nwebsite.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause, with everything that is happening in the West Bank, and\nwith more than 50 per cent of Gaza now under the control of the Israeli\nmilitary and less than 50 per cent under the control of Hamas, there is\nno credible path forward for a political resolution of the conflict,\u201d\nMladenov added.<\/p>\n
In his view, the situation in Gaza can only progress if the parties,\nnamely Israel and Hamas, are willing to honour their commitments. For\ninstance, Hamas would hand over its weapons and Israel would withdraw\nfrom Gaza. \u201cThe only way we can build back to that is if we have a\ntransitional government, if we have the deactivation of weapons, if we\nhave a withdrawal in Gaza,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
At a press conference in Kyiv, Ukraine, on Sunday (6 September 2026),\nthe US President\u2019s Special Envoy, Jared Kushner, acknowledged that\nIsraeli leaders were acting somewhat irrationally in Gaza. According to\nhim, this was connected to the election Israel is due to hold in October\n2026. \u201cBut we are very determined and we are working through these\nthings,\u201d Kushner said.<\/p>\n
He added that Gaza could not be entered as long as weapons remained.\n\u201cWe are now beginning to understand the scope of the militarisation of\nGaza. It is beyond your comprehension. And demilitarisation will not be\neasy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is known to have rejected\nthe 15-point peace plan for the Gaza Strip approved by the Board of\nPeace established by US President Donald Trump. Netanyahu said he would\nnot withdraw his military forces from Gaza before Hamas\u2019s weapons were\nfully dismantled.<\/p>\n
\u201cIsrael rejects the 15-point document issued by the Board of Peace\nfor Gaza,\u201d Netanyahu said in a video statement after a cabinet meeting\nbegan on 9 August 2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Israeli military will not carry out any withdrawal until Hamas\nis disarmed,\u201d Netanyahu added.<\/p>\n
He said the disarmament of Hamas must cover both heavy and light\nweapons. Netanyahu stressed that Israel wants genuine disarmament. \u201cNot\nfake disarmament,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
