The National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) is strengthening\ncase-based and outcome-oriented deradicalisation to reduce the risk of\nprogramme participants becoming re-involved in terrorist networks or\nactions.<\/p>\n
BNPT Head Eddy Hartono stated in Jakarta on Thursday that this\napproach is necessary to ensure that deradicalisation does not merely\nend with rehabilitation in correctional institutions, but continues\nthrough the process of social reintegration.<\/p>\n
\u201cA case-based approach allows every individual\u2019s development to be\nmonitored more measurably, from the detention stage and rehabilitation\nin correctional institutions to the social reintegration process,\u201d said\nEddy.<\/p>\n
According to him, this approach is intended not only for the benefit\nof the deradicalisation programme recipients but also to provide\nprotection to the general public.<\/p>\n
He expressed hope that a continuous deradicalisation process could\nreduce the risk of individuals returning to terrorist networks or\nactions after re-entering their social environments.<\/p>\n
Eddy noted that the success of deradicalisation requires cross-agency\ncoordination that is not only oriented towards information exchange but\nalso towards understanding the specific conditions of each programme\nparticipant.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe coordination model should not be limited to meetings,\ninformation exchange, and reporting. It is better to be case-based and\noutcome-based, where each individual needs to be profiled, including\nassessing why someone may not be cooperative,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Previously, the BNPT, alongside the Prasasti Perdamaian Foundation,\nheld a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Strengthening the Implementation\nof Integrated Deradicalisation through the Coordination Team for the\nImplementation of Deradicalisation for Detainees, Prisoners, and Clients\nof Terrorism Cases in Jakarta on Wednesday (19\/8).<\/p>\n
Executive Director of the Prasasti Perdamaian Foundation, Khariroh\nMaknunah, stated that the experiences of field practitioners serve as\nvital material for evaluating and refining inter-agency working\nmechanisms.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe FGD was organised to listen to the experiences of field\nimplementers who face various challenges, and to identify how\ncoordination mechanisms between stakeholders can be strengthened,\u201d said\nKhariroh.<\/p>\n
The Deradicalisation Implementation Coordination Team involves\nseveral stakeholders, including the Ministry of Immigration and\nCorrectional Services, the Attorney General\u2019s Office, and the National\nPolice\u2019s 88 Special Counter-Terrorism Detachment.<\/p>\n
