The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) of Indonesia has stated
that the Republic of Korea is an important partner in efforts to
maintain peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. During an
audience with the National Counter-Terrorism Center (NCTC) in Bogor,
West Java, on Thursday (18/6), BNPT Chief Eddy Hartono noted that
counterterrorism cooperation with the Republic of Korea, particularly
with the NCTC Administrator, has been well-established. “Thank you for
the visit and commitment to strengthening counterterrorism cooperation
with Indonesia,” Eddy stated, as confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Consequently, the BNPT and the NCTC of the Republic of Korea agreed to
reinforce their joint commitment to partnership in the East Asia region
to support regional peace and stability. This commitment was implemented
through the visit of NCTC Administrator Park Wonho, which was followed
by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BNPT and
NCTC. “We hope that the MoU signed today can be promptly followed up
with concrete work programmes and that cooperation between the two
countries can be further strengthened through concrete, adaptive, and
sustainable collaboration,” he expressed. NCTC Administrator Park Wonho
stated that the counterterrorism cooperation established with BNPT is a
crucial step in supporting a world free from the threat of terrorism.
“Maintaining world peace cannot be done by just one country; it must be
done together,” Park said. Park noted that although the trend of
terrorist acts has relatively decreased, both countries must remain
vigilant and cooperate by sharing information and experiences to prevent
terrorism. Before concluding his visit to BNPT, Park Wonho, along with
NCTC staff and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, visited the Class
IIB Special Correctional Facility in Sentul and the Adhi Pradana
National Counterterrorism Museum.
",
