        "content": "<p>The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) respects the\nCorruption Eradication Commission\u2019s (KPK) sting operation involving the\nagency. BNPB has called for the presumption of innocence to be\nupheld.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBNPB fully respects the legal processes and procedures currently\nbeing carried out by the KPK. BNPB upholds the presumption of\ninnocence,\u201d BNPB spokesperson Berton Padjaitan told reporters on Tuesday\n(13 October 2026).<\/p>\n<p>Berton said BNPB would co-operate and provide full information\nregarding the KPK\u2019s investigation. The agency also promised not to\ninterfere in the case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBNPB is committed to co-operating and providing the data and access\nto information required in accordance with applicable laws and\nregulations. BNPB will not intervene in any way in the investigation and\ninquiry processes conducted by law enforcement authorities,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Berton said BNPB\u2019s leadership had instructed its Inspectorate General\nto conduct an internal review and secure documents as part of its\ninternal oversight. The agency also urged its employees to remain\nfocused on disaster response.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBNPB urges all staff to remain focused on disaster management and\nhumanitarian duties, and not to be distracted by the ongoing legal\nprocess,\u201d Berton said.<\/p>\n<p>BNPB asked the public to await the KPK\u2019s official findings and\nrefrain from speculation. \u201cBNPB reaffirms its commitment to\nstrengthening governance, integrity and internal oversight,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n<p>The KPK is known to have conducted a sting operation at BNPB,\ndetaining several people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeveral people have been detained and are being questioned,\u201d KPK\nchairman Setyo Budiyanto told reporters on Tuesday (13 October).<\/p>\n<p>Setyo did not say who had been detained or provide details about the\ninvestigation. Those detained remain under examination, and the KPK has\n24 hours to announce their status.<\/p>",
