        "content": "<p>The Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB),\nSuharyanto, stated that the agency is currently prioritising Ground Task\nForces in efforts to control forest and land fires (karhutla) in several\nprovinces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the remainder of this prolonged dry season, we have agreed\nthat fire suppression will be the battlefield for the Ground Task\nForce,\u201d he said in Banjarbaru on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>All joint elements have been deployed to their maximum capacity,\nincluding the TNI-Polri (Military and Police), BNPB, BPBD (Regional\nDisaster Management Agency), Manggalai Agni, Fire Care Communities, and\ncommunity volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking before Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka during a\ncoordination meeting at the Forest and Land Fire Monitoring Post in\nGuntung Damar, Banjarbaru, Suharyanto admitted that aerial operations\nusing water-bombing helicopters are quite difficult given the limited\ncapacity for water spraying.<\/p>\n<p>Suharyanto also reported that current national data shows burnt land\nhas reached 1,320 hectares, with West Kalimantan recording the largest\narea of forest fires. This is followed by Riau, South Kalimantan,\nCentral Kalimantan, South Sumatra, and Jambi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCompared to the impact of El Nino in 2023, which saw 600,000\nhectares affected, this year is indeed smaller at 72,000 hectares,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>",
