The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) respects the legal\nprocess being carried out by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)\nagainst an official detained in a sting operation.<\/p>\n
Berton Panjaitan, head of BNPB\u2019s Disaster Data, Information and\nCommunication Centre, said the agency also upheld the presumption of\ninnocence.<\/p>\n
\u201cBNPB is committed to co-operating and will provide data support and\naccess to the information required, in accordance with applicable laws\nand regulations,\u201d Berton said when contacted on Tuesday (13\nOctober).<\/p>\n
He said BNPB would not interfere in any way with the investigation\nand inquiry being conducted by the KPK.<\/p>\n
\u201cBNPB\u2019s leadership has instructed the Inspectorate General to conduct\nan internal review and secure documents as part of its internal\noversight,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Berton added that BNPB\u2019s leadership had urged all staff to remain\nfocused on disaster response and humanitarian duties and not to be\ndistracted by the ongoing legal proceedings.<\/p>\n
\u201cBNPB reaffirms its commitment to strengthening governance, integrity\nand internal oversight,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The KPK was earlier reported to have carried out a sting operation\ntargeting an official at BNPB.<\/p>\n
According to information received by CNNIndonesia.com, KPK\ninvestigators also seized around Rp1.5 billion during the operation.<\/p>\n
KPK chairman Setyo Budiyanto confirmed that the commission had\nconducted an operation.<\/p>\n
