        "content": "<p>The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has stated that 232\npeople have been displaced by the fire at the Jatiwaringin final\ndisposal site (TPA) in Tangerang Regency. They are seeking refuge to\navoid the adverse effects of the thick smoke from the blaze. \u201cThey have\nevacuated to the Tanjakan Mekar Village Hall,\u201d said Abdul Muhari, Head\nof the BNPB Data, Information, and Communication Centre, in a written\nstatement on Sunday, 5 July 2026. The evacuees include 60 children, 7\nelderly people, 1 pregnant woman, 137 adults, 26 toddlers, and 1 person\nwith a disability. He added that the government is providing logistical\nassistance, such as mattresses for the displaced, and a medical team is\non standby 24 hours a day. Abdul Muhari reported that 15 hectares of the\nJatiwaringin landfill have been affected by the fire. Approximately 40\nper cent of the area has been extinguished and is undergoing cooling\noperations. Firefighting efforts are being conducted via both land and\nair routes. \u201cEfforts are still ongoing for the remaining 60 per cent of\nthe burned area, which has not yet been fully extinguished but is under\ncontrol,\u201d he said. The fire at the Jatiwaringin landfill in Tangerang\nRegency first broke out on Tuesday, 30 June 2026. In an official\nstatement, the Ministry of Environment suspected the fire was triggered\nby hot weather conditions, which caused a hotspot in the waste pile that\nthen spread. However, the exact cause is still under investigation. \u201cThe\nexact cause will be investigated once the emergency situation is under\ncontrol,\u201d the Ministry said in its statement. The Tangerang Regency\nHealth Office recorded that 154 residents have suffered from acute\nrespiratory infections (ISPA) due to exposure to smoke from the\nJatiwaringin landfill fire.
