This step is considered crucial to prevent public\nmisunderstandings, particularly concerning the distribution of volcanic\nash and aviation safety.<\/p>\n<p>This appeal was released following the circulation of social media\nscreenshots that appeared to criticise the official <span class=\"citation\" data-cites=\"infoBMKG\">@infoBMKG<\/span> account. BMKG\nclarified that the circulating images had been edited or cropped,\ncreating a false perception that the BMKG administrator had provided an\ninappropriate response to a post by the Cabinet Secretariat.<\/p>\n<p>The Senior Secretary of BMKG, Guswanda, explained that the viral\ncomment was actually a specific answer to a netizen\u2019s question, rather\nthan a rebuttal to another institution. He emphasised the importance of\nprecision in filtering information in the public sphere to avoid causing\nunnecessary commotion.<\/p>\n<p>In its statement, BMKG also reaffirmed the division of authority with\nthe Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG).\nPVMBG is authorised to monitor internal activity and the status of\nvolcanoes, while BMKG focuses on atmospheric monitoring and the\ndistribution of volcanic ash for Volcanic Ash Advisory purposes for\naviation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBMKG urges the public to be more careful, thorough, and to filter\nall information in the public sphere so that the narration and\ninterpretation of messages do not lead to misunderstandings,\u201d said\nGuswanto in an official statement on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the public, BMKG has invited the media and content\ncreators to realign titles and captions of circulating information.
