        "content": "<p>The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has\nrevealed the cause of the drying of the Barito River in Central\nKalimantan (Kalteng). BMKG stated that the Central Kalimantan region is\nentering the peak of the dry season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn terms of rainfall, during the first dasarian of August 2026 in\nCentral Kalimantan, rainfall was indeed in the low category (0-10\nmm\/dasarian),\u201d said BMKG Director of Climate Change Fachri Rajab to\ndetikcom on Friday (21\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>He said the Central Kalimantan region generally experienced days\nwithout rain (HTH) in the medium category (11 to 20 consecutive days\nwithout rain) and the very long category (31 to 60 consecutive days\nwithout rain).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurrently, most parts of Indonesia, including Central Kalimantan,\nare in the peak period of the dry season,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Contacted separately, BMKG Extreme Weather and Climate Researcher\nSiswanto said the condition of the Barito River drying up like a desert\nis confirmed by BMKG\u2019s meteorological drought analysis. According to\nhim, most areas crossed by the Barito River experienced HTH in the long\nto very long category.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBMKG\u2019s monitoring of dry spell or days without rain (HTH) shows that\nmost areas have experienced HTH in the long to very long category (more\nthan 20 days up to 1 month),\u201d said Siswanto.<\/p>\n<p>As is known, the Barito River in Central Kalimantan is drying up. The\ncontinuously receding water discharge has caused several parts of the\nriver to become shallow, with stretches of sand and land emerging in the\nmiddle of the flow.<\/p>\n<p>The unusual sight was visible around the Kalahien Bridge in Kalahien\nVillage, Dusun Selatan District, South Barito Regency. Sandbars formed\nin the middle of the river made the flow appear split, and some areas\nresembled a beach.<\/p>\n<p>Local resident Rudi Hermansyah said the receding of the Barito River\nhas been visibly severe since early August. According to him, the\nemergence of land in the middle of the river is one sign that the water\ndischarge has decreased significantly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis condition has not only altered the river\u2019s landscape but has\nalso begun to disrupt water transport activities. A number of cargo\nships and barges have reported difficulty passing through the shallow\nparts of the river,\u201d said Rudi, as reported by detikKalimantan on Friday\n(21\/8\/2026).<\/p>",
