BMKG has issued an early warning for significant weather conditions on 27 May 2026, with Tropical Depression 99W and cyclonic circulations causing potential very heavy rainfall in North Maluku and other regions. The system is expected to strengthen into a tropical cyclone within 48-72 hours, increasing the risk of hydro-meteorological disasters across Aceh to Bengkulu, the Strait of Malacca, Java Sea, and Papua. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and monitor official updates.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued
an early warning for significant weather conditions on Wednesday, 27 May
2026. The current atmospheric conditions in Indonesia are strongly
influenced by the emergence of Tropical Depression 99W in the northern
Pacific Ocean near Papua and two other active cyclonic circulation
points. Residents are urged to enhance preparedness, particularly those
in areas under Alert status for moderate to very heavy rainfall,
specifically North Maluku. Satellite observations indicate Tropical
Depression 99W is located in the northern Pacific Ocean off Papua with
maximum wind speeds of 30 knots and minimum air pressure of 1006 hPa,
moving westward. BMKG predicts the system will strengthen into a
tropical cyclone within 48 to 72 hours, inducing convergence and
confluent zones stretching from the northern Pacific off North Maluku to
northern Papua. This combination of phenomena significantly increases
the potential for rain cloud development along the convergence zones,
including the western coast of Aceh to Bengkulu, the Strait of Malacca,
the Java Sea, and Papua’s highlands. The public is advised to remain
vigilant for potential hydro-meteorological disasters and to update
weather information via official channels at bmkg.go.id or social media
@infobmkg.
",
