The Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics\n(BMKG) forecasts that rainfall will begin to descend gradually from\nSeptember to October 2026 in several areas prone to forest and land\nfires (karhutla), such as Sumatra and Kalimantan, which may assist in\nthe fire suppression process.<\/p>\n
BMKG Deputy for Climatology, Ardhasena Sopaheluwakan, stated during a\npress conference in Jakarta on Tuesday that current monitoring shows\nseveral regions in Sumatra and northern Kalimantan have already begun to\nexperience rainfall.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor southern West Kalimantan and southern Central Kalimantan, the\nprediction for the start of the persistent rainy season occurs during\nthe second and third ten-day periods of October. However, before that,\nrain will begin to arrive gradually,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He explained that this gradual decrease in dry conditions is expected\nto reduce haze density and help extinguish fire spots that are\ndisrupting the activities of local communities.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, in October, rainfall is expected to reach the regions of\nJambi and South Sumatra.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Riau region has already entered the rainy season in September,\nwhich helps reduce the number of hotspots. Meanwhile, for southern\nregions such as Jambi and South Sumatra, rain will begin to arrive in\nOctober,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
