Indonesia’s Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency
(BMKG) has forecast that weather conditions during Eid al-Fitr 2026 will
be dominated by cloudy skies and the potential for heavy rainfall across
several regions of Indonesia.

“During heavy rainfall periods, which I have already mentioned for
several provinces we should monitor, the Eid period is expected to be
dominated by cloudy conditions with the potential for heavy rainfall,”
said BMKG Head Teuku Faisal Fathani during a working meeting with
Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives at the
Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Furthermore, he explained that several atmospheric dynamics are
influencing weather conditions leading up to Eid al-Fitr and the Eid
holiday period, including the Asian monsoon bringing increased water
vapour, the Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) or phenomenon of cloud and
rainfall activity movement in tropical regions towards the east,
atmospheric waves, and the potential for tropical cyclone development in
southern Indonesian waters.

“Therefore, during the second week of March there is potential for
increased rainfall, but subsequently it will decrease,” Faisal said.

He advised the public to remain alert to the potential for very high
rainfall in several regions throughout March, particularly in West Java,
Central Java, and South Sulawesi.

“We need to be alert to three provinces that could experience very
high rainfall—West Java, Central Java, and South Sulawesi,” he
stated.

In line with these varied weather conditions, Faisal said the agency
will continue to update weather information to support the smooth
operation of public activities during the Eid holiday and celebration
period.

“BMKG will continue to update weather information for land, sea and
air transport through the System of Interactive Aviation Meteorology
(INASIAM) for flights, Indonesia Weather Information for Shipping
(INA-WIS) for maritime activities, and Digital Weather for Traffic (DWT)
for land transport,” he said.

Faisal added that BMKG will also distribute weather information to
the public through official social media channels, including the
official BMKG website at www.bmkg.go.id and Instagram account @infobmkg.
",
