        "content": "<p>The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has\nrevealed that complex atmospheric dynamics and human interference are\nthe primary triggers for flood disasters during the 2026 national dry\nseason. Phenomena such as equatorial Rossby waves and environmental\ndamage mean the potential for heavy rain still lurks even though some\nregions have entered the dry period.<\/p>\n<p>BMKG Head Teuku Faisal Fathani explained that weather conditions\nduring the transition to the dry season are currently heavily influenced\nby daily variations. \u201cThere are also factors related to equatorial\nRossby waves, Kelvin waves, the MJO (Madden-Julian Oscillation), and so\non that can cause daily variations,\u201d Fathani said, as reported by Antara\non Thursday (4\/6).<\/p>\n<p>Based on BMKG data up to the end of May 2026, only about 24 percent\nof the total 699 Seasonal Zones (ZOM) in Indonesia have officially\nentered the dry season. The rest are predicted to follow suit in June.\nFathani added that the El Ni\u00f1o phenomenon, which emerged from April to\nMay 2026, is expected to strengthen from weak to moderate in the third\nquarter of this year, particularly from August to October.<\/p>\n<p>Besides natural factors, BMKG highlighted the significant role of\nhumans in exacerbating disaster risk. Massive housing development, land\nconversion, and river siltation have made regions more vulnerable. As a\nresult, moderate-intensity rainfall that was once considered normal can\nnow instantly trigger flash floods and landslides.<\/p>\n<p>This anomalous condition creates a dual challenge for disaster\nmanagement in Indonesia. While several regions such as North Sulawesi\nstruggle to cope with flooding, other areas on the island of Sumatra and\nWest Nusa Tenggara are beginning to face an increased risk of forest and\nland fires due to a drastic drop in rainfall.<\/p>",
