The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has warned\nthat 25 regencies and cities in Central Java are under a \u2018Severe\u2019 (Awas)\nmeteorological drought status for the first ten-day period of September\n(1\u201310 September 2026).<\/p>\n
Goeroeh Tjiptanto, Head of the BMKG Central Java Climatology Station,\nstated from Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency, on Thursday, that the public\nand local governments need to increase vigilance regarding the potential\nimpacts of drought.<\/p>\n
\u201cBased on BMKG monitoring, the areas under \u2018Severe\u2019 status include\nCilacap, Brebes, Tegal, Banyumas, Purbalingga, Pekalongan, Banjarnegara,\nKebumen, Wonosobo, Magelang, Magelang City, Purworejo, Klaten,\nSukoharjo, Wonogiri, Karanganyar, Sragen, Grobogan, Blora, Rembang,\nPati, Jepara, Kudus, and Demak,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He explained that the \u2018Severe\u2019 status represents the most critical\ncondition, occurring when there has been no rainfall for at least 61\nconsecutive days.<\/p>\n
\u201cMeanwhile, areas under \u2018Alert\u2019 (Siaga) status include Tegal City,\nSemarang City, Salatiga City, Surakarta City, Pemalang, Batang, Kendal,\nSemarang Regency, Temanggung, and Boyolali. Additionally, Pekalongan\nCity is under \u2018Watch\u2019 (Waspada) status,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
He noted that the \u2018Alert\u2019 status indicates a worsening condition\nwhere rainfall has not occurred for more than a month, or at least 31\ndays.<\/p>\n
Under the \u2018Alert\u2019 status, surface water sources such as shallow\nwells, rivers, and reservoirs are likely to shrink, which may begin to\nimpact the agricultural sector. He urged the community to conserve water\nusage and limit its use for non-essential needs during this stage.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll these statuses are accompanied by a prediction of rainfall of\nless than 20 millimetres per ten-day period, with a probability of more\nthan 70 per cent,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Regarding the areas under \u2018Severe\u2019 status, he stated that local\ngovernments and relevant agencies must immediately anticipate the\npotential clean water crisis, for instance, through the scheduled\nroutine distribution of water using tanker trucks.<\/p>\n
