Jakarta's transportation authority has mandated cashless payments for parking at Blok M Square to curb illegal levies, with electronic cards or e-wallets as the only accepted methods. Officials are investigating reports of double charging and underreported revenues, estimating the area generates up to Rp100 million daily but remits less than 60% to the government. This follows the sealing of six parking gates amid suspicions of three years of irregularities by the operator, aiming to enhance transparency and compliance in urban parking management.

JAKARTA - Parking payments in the Blok M Square area, Kebayoran Baru,
South Jakarta, are now prohibited from using cash. Residents are also
urged to report any instances of double parking charges or payments
outside the official rates. The Head of the Parking Unit of the DKI
Jakarta Transportation Agency, Massdes Arouffy, emphasised that the
payment system in the area should fully utilise non-cash methods. “With
our system taking over, I am starting to enforce it strictly—no more
asking if they want cash or not, just ensure it’s non-cash,” said
Massdes when contacted on Wednesday (13/5/2026). Massdes explained that
visitors can pay for parking using electronic money cards or digital
wallet applications or e-wallets. Currently, the Parking Management Unit
is considering providing sales of electronic money cards at the parking
exit to facilitate visitors. “If there is a demand for parking fees
twice, immediately report it to the nearby officers and do not give
additional money outside the official parking rates,” said Damanik on
Wednesday, quoted from the official DKI Jakarta Provincial Government
website. Meanwhile, although cash payments are no longer allowed, when
Kompas.com visited the location on Wednesday morning, officers at the
parking exit were still offering cash payment options to visitors. “Cash
or card payment?” the officer asked Kompas.com. When asked again if cash
payments could still be made, the officer replied, “Still can.” In fact,
information banners regarding non-cash payments have been installed in
the area for the past two months. This measure was taken after six
parking gates in the Blok M area were sealed by the Transportation
Agency along with the Special Committee on Parking of the DKI Jakarta
DPRD on Monday (11/5/2026). The Chairman of the Special Committee on
Parking of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Ahmad Lukman Jupiter, stated that they
found suspicions of illegal levies carried out by the Best Parking
operator over the last three years. According to him, the Blok M area is
estimated to have parking revenue potential of up to Rp100 million per
day. However, the levies deposited to the local government are said not
to reach 60 percent of the total revenue. “The revenue potential here is
more than Rp3 billion per month. That means in one day it can reach
Rp100 million,” said Ahmad Lukman Jupiter.
",
