Blast investigation aims at elements within TNI<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Attorney General Marzuki Darusman said the
\ninvestigation into Wednesday's blast at the Jakarta Stock
\nExchange building now was aimed at elements within the Indonesian
\nMilitary.<\/p>\n
Marzuki asserted that only the military had the resources to
\ncarry out the bombing. \"Only they have the training to do that,\"
\nhe said as quoted by Antara news agency.<\/p>\n
President Abdurrahman Wahid has instructed Indonesian Military
\n(TNI) Commander Adm. Widodo A.S. to assist police in
\ninvestigating the bombing.<\/p>\n
Marzuki noted that based on the type of equipment used in the
\nbombing it was clear which parties should be investigated.<\/p>\n
\"So really the area or place in which the answers should be
\nsearched for can already be narrowed down,\" he said, adding that
\n\"there is a view (the investigations should be) directed toward
\nthe TNI\".<\/p>\n
The 34-story Jakarta Stock Exchange building was rocked by a
\npowerful explosion on Wednesday which left at least 10 people
\ndead and dozens others injured. Police have said as many as 15
\npeople died in the blast, though they have not identified all of
\nthe victims.<\/p>\n
A police forensics team has said the blast was caused by a
\nbomb containing over one kilogram of TNT, the highly flammable
\ntoxic compound trinitrotoluene. The blast left a 60-centimeter
\nhole on the second level of the building's basement parking lot.<\/p>\n
Another one-square-meter hole was found on the first floor of
\nthe parking lot.<\/p>\n
Marzuki said if evidence was found linking elements within TNI
\nto the bombing and the investigation was then halted, then there
\nwas something wrong within the TNI.<\/p>\n
\"If there is something wrong within the ranks of the military,
\nthen the reforms will cease,\" he remarked.<\/p>\n
When asked if he believed there was a connection between the
\nblast and former president Soeharto's trial, the second session
\nof which was due to be held on Thursday, the day after the
\nbombing, Marzuki acknowledged a \"coincidence\" but refused to
\nspeculate.<\/p>\n
\"We don't want to place a correlation (between the events) or
\nconfirm a correlation,\" he said.<\/p>\n
At the Jakarta Stock Exchange building on Friday, the owners
\nof vehicles damaged in the explosion were allowed to claim their
\ncars after showing the necessary vehicle registration documents.<\/p>\n
The cleanup of the parking lot also began on Friday, with
\nworkers using flashlights as they cleared the debris. Some parts
\nof the basement parking lot remain inundated with water.<\/p>\n
Relatives of victims of the bombing came to the building to
\nlay flowers in remembrance of their loved ones.<\/p>\n
Police said at least nine people had been questioned in
\nconnection to the incident, adding that the questioning focused
\non gathering information about the bombing.<\/p>\n
Jakarta Police chief of detectives Sr. Supt. Hari Montolalu
\nsaid a total of 26 witnesses were due to be questioned, including
