        "content": "<p>Lubuk Basung (ANTARA) \u2013 The West Sumatra Natural Resources\nConservation Agency (BKSDA Sumatera Barat) in collaboration with the\nSintas Indonesian Foundation has used a thermal drone to monitor the\npresence of Sumatran tigers at the site where the animal entered a trap\nenclosure in Batang Palupuh, Palupuh District, Agam Regency. Ade Putra,\nhead of Conservation Resort II Maninjau, BKSDA Sumbar, in Lubuk Basung,\nsaid the monitoring using the thermal drone was conducted after a female\nSumatran tiger entered the trap pen in Batang Palupuh, Nagari Koto\nRantang, Palupuh District, Agam Regency, on Friday (22 May). \u2018The\nmonitoring using the thermal drone owned by the Sintas Indonesian\nFoundation took place on Friday (22\/5) at 22:00 WIB and on Saturday\n(23\/5) at 09:00 WIB,\u2019 he said. He added the monitoring would continue\nfor several days into the night and morning to facilitate tracking the\ntiger\u2019s movements. The technology used is helpful, enabling monitoring\nof the animal\u2019s presence from the heat emitted by the protected species.\n\u2018This is to determine whether other individuals of the tiger are still\nin the area, because a thermal drone can detect the animal from its body\nheat,\u2019 he said. He also noted that BKSDA Sumbar had installed treap\ncameras or traps at several points around the site where the tiger\nentered the trap. Sumbar BKSDA officers together with the Sintas\nIndonesian Foundation and Pagari conducted a sweep in the area. If\nmonitoring ceases, then conflict management or negative interactions\nbetween tigers and people would be halted. \u2018There are no signs of\nSumatran tiger presence following the evacuation of the animal,\u2019 he\nsaid. Meanwhile, Team Leader of the Sintas Indonesian Foundation,\nSepriyoga Virdana Khan, said the thermal drone had not detected signs of\na Sumatran tiger during two monitoring sessions. \u2018There have been no\nsigns of tiger presence at Batang Palupuh, Nagari Koto Rantang, Palupuh\nDistrict,\u2019 he said. He acknowledged that the thermal drone had\npreviously monitored tiger presence in Tigo Nagari, Pasaman Regency,\nNagari Pasia Laweh and Koto Tabang, Palupuh District. \u2018These three\nlocations previously showed clear movement of the animal by its body\nheat,\u2019 he said.<\/p>",
