        "content": "<p>Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The downstreaming agenda is not limited to\nthe mining sector. Other sectors also offer significant potential in the\ndownstreaming process.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming\/Deputy Head of the\nInvestment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Todotua Pasaribu, stated that\ndownstreaming is implemented to obtain added value from various domestic\ncommodities. The downstreaming agenda is also pursued to drive economic\ngrowth, job absorption, and knowledge transfer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all understand that our natural resources in minerals, coal, oil,\nand gas will one day run out. However, our natural resources also have\nenormous potential when we talk about the agriculture, plantation, and\nforestry sectors,\u201d Todotua explained during the CNBC Indonesia Economic\nUpdate 2026, themed \u2018Performance Achievements and Direction for\nStrengthening Priority Programmes\u2019, on Wednesday (24\/6\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>In the agriculture sector, Indonesia has the potential of palm oil.\nAccording to him, this commodity can be utilised as a source of\nrenewable energy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are entering the B40 concept, and now we even want to move\ntowards the B50 concept. Why? Because we have strength in our CPO and\nits utilisation,\u201d Todotua elaborated.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond palm oil, renewable energy such as biofuel or ethanol as an\nalternative to petrol and gas can also be obtained from various\nagricultural products containing glucose.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSugarcane, maize, cassava, aren palm, sorghum, and so on,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the government is currently establishing a mandatory E20\nbioethanol fuel type. This petrol type, blended with 20% bioethanol, is\nset to be implemented by 2028.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo get there, we need a consolidation of approximately 5 million\nkilolitres of ethanol. The existing consolidation plan in Indonesia is\nonly around 120,000 kilolitres,\u201d he revealed.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the government will conduct a groundbreaking for an\nethanol plant in Lampung Province this coming August. This plant will\nhave a total consolidation capacity of 240,000 kilolitres.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy Lampung? Because Lampung has everything. Lampung has all the\nsources. It is the largest producer of cassava, maize, and so on,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>He also addressed the downstreaming agenda for fisheries. According\nto him, the government will encourage the shipbuilding industry to\nmaximise the potential of fish in Indonesian waters.<\/p>\n<p>The government has already provided support in the form of 1,500\nfishing vessels through the Kampung Nelayan (Fishermen\u2019s Village)\nprogramme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKampung Nelayan. This is our programme to upscale. We have to look\nat these potentials,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>",
