The National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN) in Riau Islands has emphasised the crucial role of families in fostering healthy digital habits among children, stating that age restrictions on social media are easily bypassed without parental supervision. This comes in response to the implementation of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems for Child Protection, which mandates digital platforms to include parental controls, but BKKBN stresses that true effectiveness depends on active family involvement. The initiative aims to strengthen family resilience and contribute to realising Indonesia's golden generation by making homes safe spaces, even in the digital realm.",

It is from
the family that children learn values, receive protection, and build
healthy habits in the digital space,” she said when contacted in Batam
on Tuesday.

She made this statement in response to the implementation of
Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic
System Providers in Child Protection (PP Tunas).

Additionally, digital platforms are required to provide parental
control features and approvals.

However, Rohina emphasised that the effectiveness of these
regulations heavily depends on family involvement in supervising
children.

“Technology is only effective if the family is truly present.
Accompany, supervise, and be the first home they return to, even in the
digital world. Because the strongest fortress is not an app or
algorithm, but a present family,” she said.

Rohina also revealed that gadget use among children in Riau Islands,
including Batam, has caused several problems.

Therefore, she urged all families to take an active role in
supervising children, while making the home a safe space, including for
digital activities.

According to her, the implementation of PP Tunas aligns with efforts
to strengthen family resilience in realising the golden generation.

“BKKBN Kepri invites all families, especially in Kepri, to be part of
the child protection movement in the digital space,” said Rohina.
",
