Ambon (ANTARA) - The Maluku Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Agency\n(BKHIT) is strengthening supervision over the quality and food safety of\ntuna products from Maluku to maintain the commodity\u2019s competitiveness in\ninternational export markets.<\/p>\n
The Head of BKHIT Maluku, Willy Indra Yunan, stated in Ambon on\nTuesday that supervision is being conducted through monitoring and\nsurveillance activities regarding the implementation of Good Fish\nQuarantine Practices (CKIB) at fish quarantine installations in Maluku.\nThis is part of an effort to guarantee the quality of the region\u2019s\nleading fishery products.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough consistent supervision, we ensure that every operational\nstage runs according to standards so that marketed frozen and fresh tuna\nproducts possess the best quality and are able to compete in both\nnational and international markets,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He explained that the surveillance activities carried out by\nQuarantine Inspectors are focused on frozen and fresh tuna to ensure the\nimplementation of food safety standards, biosecurity systems, and the\nprevention of the entry and spread of Quarantine Fish Pests and Diseases\n(HPIK).<\/p>\n
According to Willy, the implementation of CKIB serves not only as an\ninstrument for controlling fish diseases but also as a guarantee of the\nquality and safety of products produced before they are marketed or\nexported.<\/p>\n
In its execution, the Quarantine Inspector team conducts thorough\ninspections of installation facilities, quality management systems,\nsupporting documents, and the standard operating procedures (SOP)\nimplemented by companies. This evaluation is carried out to ensure all\noperational aspects consistently meet technical requirements and CKIB\nprinciples, ranging from raw material receipt and handling processes to\nstorage and product distribution.<\/p>\n
Willy stated that supervising fish quarantine installations is a\nvital part of maintaining the reputation of Maluku\u2019s fishery products in\nthe global market, particularly for the tuna commodity, which is one of\nthe region\u2019s mainstay exports.<\/p>\n
Fishery data shows that the total export value of fisheries in Maluku\nProvince in 2025 reached 54.30 million USD, an increase compared to\n2024, which stood at 44.79 million USD. From this achievement, tuna\ncommodities\u2014especially Frozen Yellowfin Tuna Loin, fillets, and other\nprocessed products\u2014have become the second-largest contributor to foreign\nexchange for the non-live fishery commodity group after Vannamei\nshrimp.<\/p>\n
Primary export destinations for Maluku tuna include the United\nStates, China, Japan, and Vietnam, which have long been potential\nmarkets for high-quality fishery products from eastern Indonesia.<\/p>\n
The increase in export value demonstrates the importance of\nstrengthening quarantine systems and quality supervision to maintain\ninternational market confidence in Maluku\u2019s fishery products.<\/p>\n
