It is interesting to watch the quiz programs offering prizes,
\nparticularly the one broadcasted by RCTI on New Year's Eve.
\nNevertheless, I was concerned about the values of the program.
\nThe viewer who actually got through on the phone and answered the
\nquestion correctly won millions of rupiah. Imagine, for one
\nquestion the prize was Rp 3 million or Rp 8 million. The question
\nwas not difficult. The public had to identify the voice of a TV
\npersonality for which, for example, the viewers needed to be
\nfamiliar with the sports program on RCTI as the answer was the
\ncommentator of the program. The other question was the name of a
\nnational boxer. The question was also easy as they gave a few
\nhints about the boxer. The winner was the viewer who could
\nquickly contact RCTI and give the correct answer.<\/p>\n
The winner must be very happy because he\/she pocketed a lot of
\nmoney so easily. It's just like gambling. Briefly, this sort of
\nquiz is not educational when compared with a prize won through
\ncompetitions. For instance, writing contest (essays, novels
\netc.).<\/p>\n
In this case, RCTI and the sponsor -- Biore cosmetics -- could
\ninstead use the funds for developing creativity and at the same
\ntime encourage the participation of viewers. The winner of the
\ncontest would be proud of his\/her competence and achievement,
\ninstead of making a fortune by the grace of luck.<\/p>\n
Why doesn't RCTI think of an alternative program more
\neducational in nature? If it wants to aim at young people, the
\nprogram should be directed so as to motivate their interests.<\/p>\n
