        "content": "<p>Bintan welcomes Indonesians<\/p>\n<p>I am replying to Mrs. Dorcas M. Polnaya's letter entitled<br>\n\"Can't Indonesians enjoy own country?\" which appeared in your Sept.<br>\n29 edition.<\/p>\n<p>We thank Mrs. Polnaya for her interest in wanting to visit our<br>\nfine resorts and assure her that next time around it will be more<br>\npleasant when the following improvements have been made. PT<br>\nBintan Resorts Corporation (BRC) is in the process of working<br>\nwith hotel and resort operators on special packages for all<br>\nIndonesian domiciles to visit and stay in our resorts.<\/p>\n<p>Although there is currently a speedboat service from Telaga<br>\nPunggur Terminal in Batam to Bandar Bentan Telani (BBT) in Bintan<br>\nResorts, we intend to improve this service by allocating better,<br>\nfaster and more luxurious speedboats to this route. Furthermore,<br>\nwe are actively discussing starting a ferry service between<br>\nNongsa, Batam and BBT in Bintan with a Batam-based ferry company<br>\nthat currently runs between Batam, Singapore and Tanjung Pinang.<br>\nThis will serve all arrivals at Hang Nadim Airport.<\/p>\n<p>I also wish to assure Mrs. Polnaya that the currency in use<br>\nhere is the rupiah. However, because we frequently receive<br>\nSingaporean and other international visitors, hotels, resorts<br>\nand retail outlets also quote their prices in Singapore dollars.<br>\nThe rupiah is nevertheless legal tender and can be used to settle<br>\nall bills.<\/p>\n<p>We in Bintan are fully aware that we are part of Indonesia.<br>\nAlthough far away, we participated in full in the recent \"Let's<br>\ngo Indonesia\" promotion and other promotional events. Despite our<br>\nown financial difficulties, we have also recently launched<br>\nvarious charitable and community development programs to help our<br>\nBintan brethren who have been badly affected by the monetary<br>\ncrisis. So please be reassured that all Indonesians are welcome<br>\nto visit and enjoy this part of Indonesia.
