Biggest ever oil and gas expo will be held in Bali<\/p>\n

The Indonesian International Oil, Energy and Gas Conference
\nand Exhibition (IIOGE) will be held once again, with at least
\n1,000 leading local and international business people expected to
\ntake part in the biggest ever conference and exhibition.<\/p>\n
The IIOGE 2002, which will be officially opened by President
\nMegawati Soekarnoputri on July 6 and will run for two days at the
\nBali International Convention Center in Nusa Dua, Bali.<\/p>\n
\"The participants are of a high level and appropriate to the
\nthemes under discussion. They are not technical experts, but
\ninstead the delegates are predominantly leading businessmen in
\nthe industry - Country Directors, Financial Analysts, Commercial
\nDirectors, Traders, Chairmen, Bankers, Consultants etc.,\" PT Rai
\nExpo International's CEO Alan Solow said.<\/p>\n
PT Rai Expo International, in collaboration with London-based
\nInternational Trade and Exhibition (ITE) Group, Plc, is the
\norganizing committee of the IIOGE 2002.<\/p>\n
Established by the Indonesian Government in partnership with
\nleading public and private sector organizations, IIOGE 2002 is a
\nregional forum hosted by state oil and gas company Pertamina,
\nstate gas company Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) and state
\nelectricity company Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), and held
\nannually in Indonesia on the resort island of Bali.<\/p>\n
The IIOGE 2002 Exhibition offers manufacturers, suppliers,
\ncontractors and service providers, a golden opportunity to
\nexhibit their products and services to industry leaders, policy
\nmakers, as well as domestic and international participants in the
\nIIOGE 2002 conference.<\/p>\n
Alan highlighted the importance of the upcoming IIOGE 2002,
\nsaying, \"IIOGE will offer participating countries a unique
\nopportunity to align policy, development and investment both
\nwithin ASEAN itself, and furthermore, between ASEAN and other key
\nenergy centers - OPEC, China, Russia and Korea.\"<\/p>\n
He said that as an independent event, all nations
\nparticipating have equal rights to have their perspectives heard.
\n\"The participation of the private sector at the most senior level
\nfurther ensures that all stakeholders in the industry recognize
\nthe critical importance of further global liberalization of the
\nindustry, and the vital role that the private sector has to play
\nin investment, technology and in knowledge,\" he pointed out.<\/p>\n
This year's IIOGE will be held immediately following the 20th
\nASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM). The presence of the
\nASEAN Energy Ministers and their Senior Officials, as well as
\nheads of ASEAN power and utilities companies is expected to offer
\ninternational participants the latest status and future
\ndirections on energy cooperation in the region.<\/p>\n
With a theme of Sustaining Indonesia's Gas Production: Meeting
\nAsia's Long Term Energy Demand, the IIOGE 2002 Conference will
\nprovide a world-class forum for discussion of the key issues that
\nare guiding the next stage of development in the Indonesian
\nenergy industry.<\/p>\n
The Conference will feature at least 18 speakers from
\nIndonesia and foreign countries, including Minister of Energy and
\nMineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro, Minister of Industry and
\nTrade Rini Soewandi, OPEC's Secretary General Ali Rodriguez
\nAraque, Singapore's Minister of State for Trade and Industry
\nRaymond Lim Siang Keat, the Secretary of the Philippine
\nDepartment of Energy Wang Tao, British Petroleum's Group Vice
\npresident, Upstream David Fitzsimmons, President Commissioner of
\nPT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk John S. Karamoy and ASEAN's
\nSecretary General Rodolfo C. Severino Jr.<\/p>\n
They will discuss their experiences in Asian energy markets,
\npresent strategic information and share their perspectives on the
\nforces driving energy policy development in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Issues to be discussed will include multilateral strategies
\nfor meeting Asia's long term energy demands, development of
\nIndonesia's energy initiatives for the 2002-2003 period,
\nexpanding and maintaining Indonesia's LNG markets, the effect of
\ncompetition in Indonesia's downstream sector, domestic and
\nregional gas infrastructure development, balancing central and
\nregional government authority in Indonesia's energy sector and
\nthe impact of the evolving political and social environment on
\ninvestment.<\/p>\n
Alan said that the Organizing Committee will be hoping that
\nIIOGE will see a positive statement of support from the Chinese
\ndelegation to make Indonesia a key supplier of LNG there. \"They
\nare also likely to use IIOGE as a platform to accelerate the
\ndevelopment of the Trans Asia Gas Grid project. On a global
\nagenda, IIOGE will provide OPEC and Russia the opportunity to
\nfurther build a relationship of trust and create a strategy for
\nAsia that equally benefits the two largest production powers in
\nthe world,\" he noted.<\/p>\n
Indonesia's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo
\nhighlights the important role Indonesia plays in the energy
\nsector linked to IIOGE, saying \"The IIOGE annual series and the
\nIndonesian Chamber of Commerce and Trade (Kadin) initiative, is
\nan international forum for both domestic and international
\norganizations.\"<\/p>\n
\"Over the last two years, the IIOGE series succeeded in
\ndemonstrating to the international community our continued
\ndevelopment in these sectors that are fundamental to our future
\neconomic success.\"<\/p>\n
He said that Indonesia's energy industry \"is one of the most
\ndeveloped in the Asia-Pacific region, and our nation leads in the
\nway in many of the technologies that are transforming the global
\nindustry. Indonesia has successfully maintained its position as
\nthe world's leading exporter of LNG gas and is without doubt the
\nfuel that will drive Asia's next stage of economic development.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, as OPEC's only member nation in the Asia-Pacific
\nregion, Indonesia plays a central role in ensuring the regular,
\nsecure and stable supply of oil to diverse nations around the
\nworld.\"<\/p>\n
