Big screen beckons Tracy Trinita<\/p>\n

JAKARTA (JP): The charm of the big screen is hard to resist,
\neven for successful Indonesian model Tracy Trinita.<\/p>\n
Following the path taken by famous models like Cindy Crawford
\nand Elle McPherson, Tracy, who has made her way as an
\ninternational model after winning the Elite Model Look contest
\nsix years ago, has now paved her way to star in a Malaysian flick
\ntitled Mendam Berahi (Holding Lust).<\/p>\n
"I was just curious. I'm interested in movies and I wanted to
\nknow what it would be like being an actress," the 21-year-old
\nTracy told a media conference here on Monday.<\/p>\n
"I read the script and I liked it."<\/p>\n
Mendam is an Asian style Charlie's Angels, a blend of action
\nand comedy starring three heroines: Tracy and Malaysian actresses
\nRita Rudaini and Shaleen Cheah.<\/p>\n
But don't let the title mislead you. The film's title is
\nactually the name of a ship owned by Sultan Malaka back in the
\n16th century.<\/p>\n
The ship went missing after Portugal attacked Malaka and
\nAdmiral Khoja Hassan used the ship to transport his family and
\ntheir belongings out of the region.<\/p>\n
Fast forward five centuries later, Malaysian government
\nappoints an agent, Madam X, to find the ship.<\/p>\n
Madam then assigns Tania (Tracy), Edsa (Shaleen) and Sara
\n(Rita) to do the job.<\/p>\n
Too bad that Madam's long time enemy, Datuk Azmi, tries to cut
\noff their effort.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, Tania is also in pursuit of her missing
\ndaughter, Nini, played by Indonesian child singer Mega Utami, who
\nalso sings on the film's soundtrack.<\/p>\n
The movie was shot in a month, from July 2 to Aug. 2, at
\nseveral locations in Malaysia and the Philippines.<\/p>\n
And the shooting was not something that Tracy -- whose face
\ngrazes top fashion magazines, stage and ads all over the world --
\nexperienced in the glittering fashion world.<\/p>\n
She described the shooting as a truly Linda Hamilton-esque
\nexperience.<\/p>\n
"I had to crawl through the forest, with snakes, centipedes
\nand caterpillars all around me... And I also had to carry weapons
\nweighing two kilograms. But it was fun," Tracy said.<\/p>\n
"The bomb and the explosion were also real. I kept hearing a
\nbuzzing sound in my ears for 10 seconds after the explosion," she
\nsaid, laughing.<\/p>\n
According to David Teo, chief executive officer from
\nMetrowealth International Group who produced the movie, he was
\ninterested in Tracy after seeing her several times.<\/p>\n
"My colleagues here in Indonesia advised me to cast her. Then
\nI met and interviewed her when she was doing this fashion show in
\nHong Kong. I offered her the script and she said yes," he said.<\/p>\n
He added that during the shooting and promotion in Malaysia,
\nTracy had made the cover story for dozens of magazines there.
\n"Many put her on the front page," he said.<\/p>\n
The film, which cost some RM 1.8 million (Rp 5 billion or
\nUS$588,235), will soon be screened in theaters across Southeast
\nAsia. Indonesians, however, will have to wait until around
\nJanuary next year.<\/p>\n
As for Tracy, the new experience won't keep her interest away
\nfrom the big screen. The model said she will continue to make
\nattempts to become an actress.<\/p>\n
"I'm really interested in acting. This is actually my third
\nmovie," said Tracy, whose father is a Brazilian.<\/p>\n
The first one is an Australian independent movie called
\nFrank's Dream, and the second one is Zoolinder. Both films were
\nshot in 1999.<\/p>\n
The latter, due to be out this December, also starred Ben
\nStiller and Milla Jovovich.<\/p>\n
"But in those movies, I only got a small part. In Zoolinder, I
\nplayed a Hawaiian girl who teaches Ben to dance," Tracy said.<\/p>\n
"I'm really amazed, though, by the way they work. They have
\nfive cameras, so we don't have to move them from one room to
\nanother and the crew were very professional, the actors were paid
\nper hour."<\/p>\n
Tracy said she planned to enroll in an acting school in New
\nYork next year.<\/p>\n
"I did once, but I could only stand it for three months," she
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
"It was really crazy! The first day, we were asked to cry for
\nhours and the next day we had to get angry for hours too!" she
\nsaid, laughing.<\/p>\n
Tracy denied that she wanted to make films because her career
\nin modeling is going nowhere.<\/p>\n
"I'm still young, only 21 years old. It's just that I'm a
\nlittle bit bored of it because I've been doing it since I was
\n15," she said.<\/p>\n
"I still want to do modeling, be better. But I also want to do
\nacting, I want to get to Hollywood. Maybe it's too optimistic,
\nbut I want to try."<\/p>\n
