Big-fish fugitives located, govt claims<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The government said on Thursday it had identified the
\nwhereabouts of a number of convicted graft defendants who had
\nabsconded abroad, and vowed to bring them home to serve their
\njail terms.<\/p>\n
\"We'll hunt down these big-time fugitives no matter where they
\nhide,\" Attorney General Abdul Rahman Saleh said after a meeting
\nwith President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.<\/p>\n
However, Abdul Rahman refused to give any details of the
\nwhereabouts of the fugitives, including Sudjiono Timan, who was
\njailed for misusing Bank Indonesia liquidity support funds
\n(BLBI).<\/p>\n
The state's highest prosecutor said the government was
\npressing ahead with its efforts to sign extradition treaties with
\nother countries, particularly Singapore, where it is alleged many
\nIndonesian fugitives seek shelter.<\/p>\n
Apart from that, the authorities would continue to avail of
\nInterpol's help to recapture the fugitives, said National Police
\nchief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar.<\/p>\n
\"We'll use this approach if the extradition attempts fail,\" he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Abdul Rahman said that chief security minister Widodo Adi
\nSucipto, who heads a team set up to hunt the fugitives, is
\narranging funding for its operations. --JP<\/p>",
