        "content": "<p>Big firms prefer China, small ones eye RI<\/p>\n<p>Deutsche Presse-Agentur, Singapore<\/p>\n<p>Bigger companies in Singapore contend the China market offers the<br>\nbrightest business prospects for the next six months, but smaller<br>\nfirms are more optimistic about Indonesia and Malaysia, a survey<br>\nshowed on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The Business Times-GBI poll revealed 21.2 percent of larger<br>\nSingapore companies were upbeat on China. India and the United<br>\nStates trailed, each with 12.9 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Smaller companies viewed Indonesia and Malaysia as their most<br>\npromising markets. Each of those countries drew 23.8 percent in<br>\nthe poll. China garnered 19 percent of the smaller firms queried.<\/p>\n<p>The survey asked companies across a range of industries and<br>\nsectors about where business opportunities will be best in the<br>\nsecond half of the year.<\/p>\n<p>The results, published in the Business Times, showed China was<br>\nseen as offering the best prospects when all the companies'<br>\nresponses were grouped together with 20.8 percent. Indonesia came<br>\nnext with 14.2 percent, then Malaysia with 13.2 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Smaller firms \"have had a relationship with Indonesia and<br>\nMalaysia for a longer time, and China is relatively new,\" survey<br>\nproject director Chow Kit Boey was quoted as saying.<\/p>\n<p>\"Since many firms are going to China, smaller firms may feel<br>\nit is more difficult to compete there,\" she added.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of sectors, China was tops for commerce, transport<br>\nand communications. The United States was seen as the most<br>\npromising market for manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>Malaysia was regarded as having the best business prospects<br>\nfor construction companies. Financial- and business-services<br>\nfirms were most excited about India, the survey showed.<\/p>",
