        "content": "<p>Big bonuses for best SEAG athletes<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): To honor the successful members of the<br>\nIndonesian 19th SEA Games contingent, the organizing consortium<br>\nand National Sports Council handed over bonuses in the form of<br>\ninsurance policies yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Cyclist Nurhayati and gymnast Jonathan Mangiring Sianturi each<br>\nreceived Rp 125 million (US$34,720), 80 percent in policies and<br>\nthe rest in cash. They will be given the cash today.<\/p>\n<p>Both Nurhayati and Jonathan won five golds in individual<br>\nevents during the Games, which started on Oct. 11 and ended<br>\nSunday. Jonathan also won another gold in the team event,<br>\ncompleting his supremacy with six golds.<\/p>\n<p>\"I thank God for his blessings and for giving us a good leader<br>\nwho pays so much attention to his athletes,\" Jonathan said after<br>\nreceiving the bonus.<\/p>\n<p>Speechless Nurhayati could only thank everyone for the<br>\nattention she had received.<\/p>\n<p>They also received motorcycles from PT Yamaha, along with<br>\nrunner Supriati Sutono, who won three golds and broke three SEA<br>\nGames records, and swimmers Catherine Surya and Rita Mariani, who<br>\nbroke two SEA Games records.<\/p>\n<p>Weight lifter Sri Indriyani received a 36-square-meter house<br>\nin Cibinong, Bogor, from PT Daksa for her outstanding performance<br>\nin breaking a junior world record.<\/p>\n<p>Although weight lifter Kassaraporn Suta of Thailand broke the<br>\nworld record in the clean and jerk in her category, but in the<br>\nmulti-event her total lift did not eclipse the old record.<\/p>\n<p>State Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Hayono Isman said<br>\nin his speech: \"The Thai weight lifter only broke the clean and<br>\njerk record not the total lift record as required in the multi-<br>\nevent. That's why Sri Indriyani deserves the house more than<br>\nher.\"<\/p>\n<p>PT Aspac also gave Rp 2 million in cash to athletes who<br>\nperformed outstandingly and beat higher ranked players. Hatimin<br>\nand Lampa in rowing, who each won five golds; Wukirasih Sawondari<br>\nand Liza Andriyani who defeated Thailand's world ranked 37th<br>\ntennis player Tamarine Tanasugarn; and Candra Wijaya\/Elyza, who<br>\nbeat world number one shuttlers Tri Kusharjanto\/Minarti Timur in<br>\nthe badminton mixed doubles individual event, received the<br>\nbonuses.<\/p>\n<p>Council chairman Wismoyo Arismunandar said: \"You enable the<br>\nnation to walk tall again. You have returned the country's<br>\ndignity despite pessimistic forecasts about your likely<br>\nperformance before the Games started.\"<\/p>\n<p>\"Next year, we'll face a bigger challenge to compete in the<br>\n15th Asian Games in Bangkok and other international events.\"<\/p>\n<p>Sports observer Mangombar Ferdinand Siregar said: \"There will<br>\nbe a great need to train and to compete overseas, not only here<br>\nat home. The athletes can't develop a tough mental attitude<br>\nwithout experiencing lots of competition.\"<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the Games consortium's executive director, Bambang<br>\nYoga Sugama, said the consortium still had to pay the<br>\naccommodation arrears, amounting to 30 percent of the total bill,<br>\nthe cost of returning the visiting contingents' sports equipment<br>\nhome and other miscellaneous expenses.<\/p>\n<p>\"Some of our profits are being used to finance the<br>\ntransportation department.\"<\/p>\n<p>The consortium imported hundreds of built-up cars for the<br>\nGames.<\/p>\n<p>The council's treasurer, Setya Novanto, said the Ministry of<br>\nTransportation had given Rp 15 billion to the consortium raised<br>\nfrom sticker sales in airports.
