BI withdraws five old banknotes<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Bank Indonesia, the central bank, announced
\nyesterday the withdrawal of old banknotes with Rp 100, Rp 500, Rp
\n1,000, Rp 5,000 and Rp 10,000 denominations, which were issued,
\nrespectively, in 1984, 1988, 1987, 1986 and 1985.<\/p>\n
The withdrawal of the five banknotes will start on Monday
\nSept. 25, and last until Sept. 24, 2028.<\/p>\n
"As of Sept. 25, 1995 those notes are no longer valid, as
\nmeans of payment, but they can be exchanged at designated banks
\nand post offices for notes of the same values," the announcement
\nstated.<\/p>\n
Until Sept. 24, 1998, the old banknotes can be changed at the
\noffices of Bank Indonesia, Bank Rakyat Indonesia, Bank Negara
\nIndonesia 1946, Bank Bumi Daya, Bank Ekspor Impor Indonesia, Bank
\nPembangunan Indonesia, Bank Tabungan Negara and PT Pos Indonesia.<\/p>\n
After that date, the banknotes can be changed only at Bank
\nIndonesia offices, until Sept. 24, 2028.<\/p>\n
The front sides of the withdrawn Rp 100 banknotes feature a
\nGoura Victoria bird, the Rp 500 notes a Cervus Timorensis deer,
\nthe Rp 1,000 King Sisingamangaraja XII, the Rp 1,000 notes hero
\nTeuku Umar and the Rp 10,000 notes feminist R.A. Kartini. (kod)<\/p>",
