JAKARTA — Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo has further
addressed the impact of geopolitical tensions causing high global
economic uncertainty on Indonesia. According to him, Indonesia’s economy
is quite resilient or ‘immune’ to these global turbulences.

“We affirm that Indonesia’s economic fundamentals are strong in
facing the impacts from geopolitics, including the Middle East war. Our
economic fundamentals are strong, so our external resilience remains
strong,” Perry stated during the April 2026 Board of Governors’ Meeting
(RDG) press conference held online on Wednesday (22/4/2026).

The strong economic fundamentals claimed include low inflation around
2.5±1 percent, high economic growth above 5 percent, and a rupiah
exchange rate that tends to be stable. In addition, there is ongoing
banking credit growth, a balance of payments recording a low current
account deficit, and strong foreign exchange reserves.

Perry assured that coordination with the Government continues, and
various measures are being implemented to maintain economic stability
and keep economic growth positive.

“Taking into account the impacts from the Middle East war, including
oil prices, the strengthening of the US dollar, high US Treasury yields,
and capital flows, therefore joint measures continue to be discussed and
have been implemented,” he said.

These measures include the eight points of work culture
transformation set by the Government in March 2026, among others the
implementation of work from anywhere (WFA), energy saving, and
strengthening the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. This also
includes accelerating the national energy transition, which encompasses
accelerating solar power plants, converting imported fuel oil (BBM) to
electric vehicles, and the biofuel programme including B50.

“These measures are very appropriate and will strengthen our economic
stability as well as the fiscal deficit that remains low below 3 percent
of GDP (Gross Domestic Product). These are the steps that have been
taken and we must continue to support the steps that will be taken by
the Government, ensuring our economic resilience is strong and our
economic fundamentals are strong,” he emphasised.
",
