BI case not closed: Officer<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): City police chief Maj. Gen. Noegroho Djajoesman
\nvowed on Tuesday that his office would continue investigating the
\n1997 fire at the new tower of Bank Indonesia, the central bank.<\/p>\n
\"Police never closed the case and will follow it up,\"
\nDjajoesman told the Jakarta Post after attending the opening
\nceremony to mark the nationwide military-sponsored social
\nactivities of health and family planning in Ketapang, Central
\nJakarta.<\/p>\n
The two-star general, however, refused to elaborate on what
\nhis men had done so far to start the reinvestigation of the two-
\nyear-old case. It is believed the fire was masterminded by
\ncertain parties in an effort to burn important documents and data
\non their misdeeds at the building.<\/p>\n
Djajoesman only said that the results of the forensic report
\ncarried out by the National Police forensic experts shortly after
\nthe fire revealed that there was no evidence of arson.<\/p>\n
\"But police will investigate this matter seriously,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The fire on Dec. 8, 1997 killed at least eight people, most of
\nthem construction workers.<\/p>\n
The intention to reinvestigate the case became public last
\nmonth when National Police chief Gen. Roesmanhadi disclosed the
\nfire was suspected arson to reporters.(04)<\/p>",
