House may probe ballot box tender<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: A member of House of Representatives (DPR) Commission
\nII for home and legal affairs called on the commission on
\nWednesday to launch an investigation into alleged manipulation in
\nthe ballot box tender.<\/p>\n
Agun Gunandjar Sudarsa said that the alleged manipulation was
\ncarried out by a network consisting of businesspeople, General
\nElections Commission (KPU) members and fellow House commission
\nmembers.<\/p>\n
\"There are indications of the involvement of Commission II
\nmembers in the procurement of ballot boxes. I demand the
\ncommission set up a team of inquiry,\" he told the media at the
\nHouse complex.<\/p>\n
Agun refused to disclose the names of legislators alleged to
\nbe implicated, saying he would do so at the right time.<\/p>\n
He added that the actors in KPU had no hesitation in abusing
\nthe public tender because they had the support of legislators.<\/p>\n
His statement came one day after activists from Jakarta
\nDevelopment Watch (Jadewa) voiced similar concern during a
\nmeeting with Commission II leaders.<\/p>\n
Jadewa director Santoso AS alleged that some members of House
\nCommission II were involved in the ballot box procurement tender.<\/p>\n
The allegation enraged Commission II deputy chairman Abdul
\nRahman Gaffar, who threatened to report the alleged libel to the
\npolice.<\/p>\n
Moreover, Agun was disappointed with the KPU because it had
\nasked Commission II to delay a hearing scheduled for Thursday.<\/p>\n
Commission II deputy chairman Ferry Mursyidan Baldan confirmed
\nthat he had received a letter from KPU to delay the hearing until
