The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has called on the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) to utilise local food resources in order to mitigate sudden increases in the prices of certain raw materials for the government's free nutritious meal programme. BGN Head Dadan Hindayana highlighted the need for flexible menu planning that aligns with regional resources and preferences, citing an example where a uniform fried rice menu with eggs for President Prabowo Subianto's birthday celebration in October 2025 required 36 million eggs, leading to a Rp3,000 per kilogram price surge. He also clarified misconceptions about beef requirements, emphasising the importance of protein variety—including eggs, chicken, beef, and fish—to optimise nutritional ratios without overburdening supply chains.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has urged the
Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) to empower local food sources
in order to suppress spikes in the prices of certain raw materials.

BGN Head Dadan Hindayana emphasised that his agency is adopting a
flexible approach in compiling the nutritious meal (MBG) menus, by
adapting to the potential of local resources and community preferences
in each region.

He recounted an experience during the celebration of President
Prabowo Subianto’s birthday on 17 October 2025, where SPPG standardised
the menu to complete fried rice with eggs as the MBG menu.

“That day required 36 million eggs or 2,200 tonnes. The impact was
that egg prices temporarily rose by Rp3,000 per kilogram,” Dadan
stated.

The BGN Head also clarified his statement about beef needs that had
been widely discussed on social media. He explained that the beef
requirement for one SPPG to serve all beneficiaries could reach one
cow.

“For example, if SPPG wants to cook beef today. If all SPPG are
instructed to cook beef on a certain date, then it’s just a matter of
adding up the number of SPPG multiplied by one cow,” he said.

Dadan stated that in one cooking process, the beef requirement for
one SPPG could reach around 350 to 382 kilograms, which is why variety
in protein sources in the menu is very important.

“There are eggs, chicken meat, beef, and fish. For instance, if
cooking beef, it requires 350 kilograms per cooking session, which means
one cow. This is the importance of nutritious eating so that the ration
capture is good. So, one cooking session of beef requires 382 (kg),
which means one cow, just the meat,” Dadan explained.
",
