        "content": "<p>The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has temporarily closed 372\nNutrition Service Units (SPPG) in East Java after inspections revealed\nthey failed to meet administrative requirements and hygiene and\nsanitation standards. East Java Vice Governor Emil Elestianto Dardak\nconfirmed coordination with BGN\u2019s central leadership, stating the\nprovincial government supports the temporary suspension to ensure the\nquality of the Free Nutritious Meals programme. \u2018The BGN chief is firm\non closing units that fail to meet deadlines,\u2019 Emil said on Monday (1\nJune). Emil highlighted that many units lack the Hygiene and Sanitation\nCompliance Certificate (SLHS), which is mandatory for operation. \u2018While\nthe SLHS deadline hasn\u2019t been met, continuing operations is\nunacceptable. There are multiple factors at play, and we thank BGN for\nthis difficult but necessary step,\u2019 he added. The temporary closure is a\npreventive measure, with compliance requirements designed to mitigate\nrisks in MBG production and distribution. \u2018All SPPGs must meet these\nstandards to minimise risks in programme delivery,\u2019 Emil said. The East\nJava provincial government pledged support for BGN, coordinating from\nregional to local levels. \u2018Local governments will support BGN\ncoordinators, district heads, and SPPG leaders in fulfilling their\nduties,\u2019 Emil stated. Emil stressed that obtaining SLHS is not mere\nbureaucracy but essential for quality. Environmental infrastructure,\nsuch as Wastewater Treatment Plants (IPAL), is critical, as improper\nwaste disposal directly affects health and meal hygiene. A 30-day\ndeadline has been set for SPPGs to obtain SLHS, with the provincial\ngovernment ensuring timely processing. \u2018The 30-day window starts now; we\nmust avoid bureaucratic delays,\u2019 Emil said. Each task force head will\nmonitor applications to prevent bureaucratic delays. \u2018Applications\naren\u2019t automatic; requirements must be met,\u2019 he added. Previously, BGN\nhad temporarily suspended thousands of SPPGs across Indonesia since the\nMBG programme began on 6 January 2025 until 29 May 2026. The decision\nfollowed public feedback, local government recommendations, surprise\ninspections, and reports of adverse incidents among beneficiaries. \u2018From\n27,208 operational SPPGs nationwide, 8,182 have been suspended since 6\nJanuary to 29 May 2026,\u2019 stated BGN\u2019s Deputy Head of Public\nCommunication and Investigation, Nanik S. Deyang, on Sunday (31 May). In\nRegion II (Java), 16,594 SPPGs exist, with 3,466 suspended temporarily.\nOf these, 1,800 have resumed operations, while 1,666 remain suspended.\nBGN cited reasons for suspensions including menu-related illnesses\n(digestive issues, diarrhoea, vomiting), budget non-compliance (Rp8,000\nand Rp10,000 per meal), price mark-ups, non-compliant facility layouts,\nmissing SLHS and IPAL facilities, inadequate staff accommodations,\ninsufficient kitchen equipment, poor management, disputes between\npartners and foundations, and fewer than 15 suppliers. Nanik added that\nsuspensions may increase as BGN now requires each SPPG to distribute MBG\nto at least 300 beneficiaries from Group 3B (pregnant women, lactating\nmothers, and toddlers). \u2018If SPPGs fail to provide data on MBG\ndistribution to Group 3B by 2 June 2026, \u2026\u2019<\/p>",
