The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) says free nutritious meal distribution during remote learning depends on when local authorities formally announce a suspension. Meals already being prepared may still be distributed through an accountable process to avoid waste, while distribution stops the following day if notice arrives before ingredients are purchased and cooking begins.

Jakarta – National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Head Sudaryono said
implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme when schools
switch to remote learning (PJJ) is adjusted in line with local
government policy and the timing of notification that services are to be
suspended. The mechanism is intended to ensure that food distribution
remains accountable while also preventing meals already prepared from
going to waste.

Sudaryono explained that MBG provision at schools follows official
notifications from local governments, issued either by governors or
regents. These notifications guide programme implementers in deciding
when to suspend services if teaching and learning activities move
online.

He said that if notification of a suspension is received before food
ingredients have been purchased and cooking preparations have begun, MBG
distribution will not take place the following day. Conversely, if the
notification arrives after preparation and cooking are under way, meals
already prepared will still be distributed through an accountable
mechanism.

“If notification comes after preparation and cooking have begun, the
meals already made will still be distributed. However, if the suspension
has been announced before ingredients are bought, there will be no
distribution the following day,” he said on Friday (16 October
2026).

He stressed that this does not mean the MBG programme continues as
usual during remote learning. Distribution is adjusted according to when
the suspension notice is received and how far service providers have
progressed with preparations.

The BGN chief said meals already prepared need to be distributed
through a clear process so that recipients can be properly accounted
for. This approach enables food resources to be used efficiently while
complying with local government requirements.

Through this mechanism, BGN aims to ensure that MBG implementation
remains measured and accountable under different circumstances on the
ground. Adjusting distribution to local government policy and the status
of preparations forms part of efforts to strengthen programme governance
and manage the resources already used appropriately.
",
