        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) is\ncoordinating with disaster task forces and regional governments to\narrange the technical distribution of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG)\nprogramme to students after schools were closed due to forest and land\nfires (karhutla).<\/p>\n<p>BGN Head Sudaryono said that through the coordination function\ninvolving disaster task forces, which include the Regional Disaster\nManagement Agency (BPBD), it is hoped that the Nutrition Service Units\n(SPPG) or MBG kitchens can arrange the technical mechanism on the\nground.<\/p>\n<p>He assessed that in emergency response conditions, coordination is\nimportant because in several regions conditions remain prone to forest\nand land fires, forcing regional governments to adopt policies shifting\nlearning activities either to distance learning (PJJ) or temporarily\nclosing schools.<\/p>\n<p>In his presentation, the BGN Head confirmed that West Kalimantan,\nCentral Kalimantan and South Kalimantan had experienced situations where\nseveral SPPGs had already cooked meals for students, only to find that\nthe targeted schools had been closed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause of the forest and land fires, schools were suddenly closed.\nThe food that had already been cooked was then still managed through a\nmechanism whereby it was collected by the students\u2019 parents,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, he added that this distribution mechanism is\nconditional, only because the relevant SPPG kitchens had already cooked,\nand distribution is currently temporarily halted because the schools are\nclosed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, we have issued a circular with the SOP so that when schools are\non holiday, the only day meals are not provided is the first day, if\ncooking had already been done. During distance learning, while students\nare not attending school, the school is not provided with meals,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that the BGN has issued an official standard operating\nprocedure (SOP) so that MBG handling in disaster-affected areas can\nproceed in an orderly manner, on target, and without disrupting safety\nor the forest and land fire response process.<\/p>",
