Beware of floods in Central Java<\/p>\n

Entering the rainy season, a number of areas in Central Java will
\nbecome prone to flooding and landslides, with above-average
\nrainfall levels expected in the region. Even the southern part
\nof the province will not be immune.<\/p>\n
Widada Sulistya, chief of the local climatic station, said the
\nrainfall in the province was expected to reach between 100
\nmilligrams and 400 milligrams per month, well above normal
\nlevels.<\/p>\n
He said the regions where the rainfall was expected to reach
\nbetween 200 mm and 300 mm included Brebes, Tegal, Pemalang and
\nPekalongan, Kudus, Sragen, Blora and Karanganyar.<\/p>\n
Regions tipped to receive rainfall levels of between 300 mm
\nand 400 mm included Banyumas, Cilacap, Kebumen, Pekalongan,
\nBatang, Temanggung, Bandjarnagara and Purbalingga<\/p>\n
Floods have been hitting critical regions of the province on
\nan almost annual basis. Flood waters that have struck the
\nsouthern part of the province have forced thousands of people to
\ntake refuge, damaged tens of thousands of hectares of rice fields
\nand inundated hundreds of houses and bridges.<\/p>",
