Best books for children announced<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Publishers Association named
\nKiambang Bertaut yesterday the best children's book in 1996.<\/p>\n
Written by C.M. Nas and published by state-owned Balai
\nPustaka, the book is a story about the friendship of Saba, Lodan,
\nRipin, Danu and Jupri in Kampung Keling.<\/p>\n
The judging panel's chief, Riris K. Toha Sarumpaet, said the
\nbook was rich with ideas which were highly suitable for children.<\/p>\n
The writer and publisher won trophies and return air tickets
\nand accommodation to attend a book fair in Frankfurt, Germany.<\/p>\n
The judges named Riwayat Nabi Muhammad (Story of Prophet
\nMuhammad) as the best selling children's book in 1996.<\/p>\n
The book was written by Ismail Pamungkas and published by PT
\nRemaja Rosdakarya of Bandung.<\/p>\n
The United States Information Service and four local
\npublishers -- Yayasan Obor Indonesia, C.V. Angkasa, Rosda
\nJayaputra and Pustaka Sinar Harapan -- launched eight newly
\ntranslated books on trade, environment and cultural analysis
\nyesterday.<\/p>\n
U.S. Charge d'Affaires Barbara S. Harvey presented the books
\nto the National Library's chief Mastini Hardjoprakoso.<\/p>\n
The books launched yesterday were translated from English.
\nThey are: Hak Cipta: Dahulu, Kini dan Esok (Copyright's Highway:
\nFrom Gutenberg to the Celestial Jukebox), Kebhinekaan Amerika:
\nRefleksi atas Sebuah Masyarakat Multikultural (The Disuniting of
\nAmerica: Reflections on a Multicultural Society), Kebijakan
\nLingkungan dan sumber Daya bagi Ekonomi Dunia (Environment and
\nResources Policies for the World Economy), Kerjasama Bangsa-
\nBagsa: Persiapan Menghadapi Abad 21 (The Work of Nations: Pre
\nparing Ourselves for 21st Century Capitalism), Langkah-Langkah
\nHijau (Green Means: Living Gently with the Planet), Masyarakat
\nPasca Kapitalis (Post-Capitalist Society), Pertempuran Penghabi
\nsan (A Farewell to Arms), Salju di Kilimanjaro (The Snows of
