        "content": "<p>Bengkulu \u2014 A total of 19.2 tonnes of Robusta coffee from farmers\u2019\nplantations in the Bukit Barisan highlands, Kepahiang Regency, Bengkulu\nProvince, began its journey to Italy on 7 September 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Italy is no ordinary destination. The country possesses a long\ntradition of coffee processing and is renowned as the birthplace of\nespresso and cappuccino. This shipment demonstrates that Bengkulu\u2019s\nplantation yields possess the quality required to enter the global\nmarket.<\/p>\n<p>The quality of Bengkulu coffee has long been recognised among coffee\nprofessionals. They are well-acquainted with the Sintaro (Sindang\nDataran Robusta) variety, a Robusta coffee with origins in Rejang Lebong\nRegency, as well as the Sehasen variety from Kepahiang Regency.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, baristas from Bengkulu have been able to win various\ncompetitions, ranging from local levels to prestigious world stages, by\nusing Bengkulu coffee. While Bengkulu coffee has long been an export\ncommodity, it has previously only been part of the coffee exported from\nneighbouring provinces.<\/p>\n<p>Until now, the identity of Bengkulu coffee has not fully reached the\nmarket. While its quality is known to coffee industry players, when the\ncommodity enters global trade, the name \u2018Bengkulu\u2019 is not always\nmentioned.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, coffee from Bengkulu\u2019s plantations was collected and\nmerged with coffee from other regions to be marketed by exporters from\nLampung. Within this long trade chain, the origin of Bengkulu coffee\nlost its identity.<\/p>\n<p>Buyers ultimately became more familiar with this commodity through\nits exporting region, even though a portion of the traded beans\noriginated from Bengkulu farmers\u2019 plantations. The coffee exists, and\nthe quality is present, but the name of the region that plants and\nnurtures it does not always reach the buyer. The story of the coffee was\nlost within the trade chain.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Governor of Bengkulu, Mian, described the issue with a\nsimple sentence: \u201cBengkula has the coffee, Lampung has the name.\u201d Now,\naccording to him, that sentence must change to: \u201cBengkulu has the\ncoffee, Bengkulu has the name, Bengkulu is the exporter.\u201d<\/p>",
