Benchmarking makes RI debut<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Presetio Utomo & Co., the Indonesian partner of
\nthe United States-based Arthur Andersen, yesterday launched the
\nIndonesian Benchmarking Clearinghouse.<\/p>\n
This first benchmarking agency in the country is a non-profit
\norganization founded by the public accounting firm in cooperation
\nwith seven major companies.<\/p>\n
It will establish a benchmark of best practices in various
\nindustrial sectors in the country.<\/p>\n
The benchmarking agency, whose initial members include Astra
\nInternational, Bakrie Group, PT Freeport Indonesia, Hero Group,
\nKalbe Group, Bank Lippo and Sewu Group, was set up in association
\nwith the International Benchmarking Clearinghouse of the United
\nStates.<\/p>\n
Darryl Hadaway, an advisor of the public accounting firm, said
\nyesterday that the number of the members is expected to increase
\nto 15 next month.<\/p>\n
\"In addition, a large number of other companies are also
\nexpected to join as members over the next 12 months to gain
\naccess to the benefits that the clearing house will bring,\" he
\nsaid at the launching of the benchmarking agency.<\/p>\n
He said that benchmarking, a formal process of identifying,
\nunderstanding and adapting outstanding practices from
\norganizations in the world, is essential as a performance gauge,
\nespecially in finding out the weaknesses and strengths of a
\ncompany.<\/p>\n
\"By linking into one of the world's leading benchmarking
\nclearinghouses, Indonesia will benefit from implementing leading
\ntechnologies and practices,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Hadaway said that the newly-established benchmarking
\nclearinghouse has set initial targets of conducting five formal
\nstudies on customer satisfaction, the supply chain, new product
\ndevelopment, corporate performance measures and team-based
\nrewards and recognition.<\/p>\n
\"These consortium studies, which are open to all companies in
\nIndonesia, are important areas for many companies wanting to
\nimprove themselves,\" he said, adding that being involved in the
\nstudies, employees of participating companies will benefit from a
\ndeep learning experience of their own process and practices as
\nwell as being able to compare with and learn from other companies
\nin a non-threatening and confidential manner.<\/p>\n
He said that benefits for the founding of ordinary members
\nwill include access to a series of services which include
\nimmediate access to a \"best practice database\" as well as the
\nlatest and best information and training in performance
