        "content": "<p>Benchmarking makes RI debut<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Presetio Utomo &amp; Co., the Indonesian partner of<br>\nthe United States-based Arthur Andersen, yesterday launched the<br>\nIndonesian Benchmarking Clearinghouse.<\/p>\n<p>This first benchmarking agency in the country is a non-profit<br>\norganization founded by the public accounting firm in cooperation<br>\nwith seven major companies.<\/p>\n<p>It will establish a benchmark of best practices in various<br>\nindustrial sectors in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The benchmarking agency, whose initial members include Astra<br>\nInternational, Bakrie Group, PT Freeport Indonesia, Hero Group,<br>\nKalbe Group, Bank Lippo and Sewu Group, was set up in association<br>\nwith the International Benchmarking Clearinghouse of the United<br>\nStates.<\/p>\n<p>Darryl Hadaway, an advisor of the public accounting firm, said<br>\nyesterday that the number of the members is expected to increase<br>\nto 15 next month.<\/p>\n<p>\"In addition, a large number of other companies are also<br>\nexpected to join as members over the next 12 months to gain<br>\naccess to the benefits that the clearing house will bring,\" he<br>\nsaid at the launching of the benchmarking agency.<\/p>\n<p>He said that benchmarking, a formal process of identifying,<br>\nunderstanding and adapting outstanding practices from<br>\norganizations in the world, is essential as a performance gauge,<br>\nespecially in finding out the weaknesses and strengths of a<br>\ncompany.<\/p>\n<p>\"By linking into one of the world's leading benchmarking<br>\nclearinghouses, Indonesia will benefit from implementing leading<br>\ntechnologies and practices,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Hadaway said that the newly-established benchmarking<br>\nclearinghouse has set initial targets of conducting five formal<br>\nstudies on customer satisfaction, the supply chain, new product<br>\ndevelopment, corporate performance measures and team-based<br>\nrewards and recognition.<\/p>\n<p>\"These consortium studies, which are open to all companies in<br>\nIndonesia, are important areas for many companies wanting to<br>\nimprove themselves,\" he said, adding that being involved in the<br>\nstudies, employees of participating companies will benefit from a<br>\ndeep learning experience of their own process and practices as<br>\nwell as being able to compare with and learn from other companies<br>\nin a non-threatening and confidential manner.<\/p>\n<p>He said that benefits for the founding of ordinary members<br>\nwill include access to a series of services which include<br>\nimmediate access to a \"best practice database\" as well as the<br>\nlatest and best information and training in performance<br>\nimprovement and benchmarking.
