BEM quits IPB rectorial election<\/p>\n
BOGOR: A student representative on the Board of Trustees of
\nthe Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) walked out of a meeting
\nin connection with its rectorial election on Monday.<\/p>\n
\"Many irregularities occurred in the election process, which
\nis too much influenced by group interests. It seems the election
\nprocess is simply useless while it probably cost hundreds of
\nmillions of rupiah,\" said Arief Maulana, president of the
\nStudents' Executive Board (BEM), and who represents the students
\non the Board of Trustees.<\/p>\n
He referred to the irregularities, particularly what happened
\nwhen short-listing the rectorial candidates from nine to five
\nearlier this month.<\/p>\n
The candidates will later be short-listed to two before one is
\nchosen as rector of the institute.<\/p>\n
He said that BEM was trying to meet Minister of Education
\nMalik Fajar to discuss the matter.--JP<\/p>",
