Bekasi told to punish delinquent developers<\/p>\n
BEKASI (JP): Head of the West Java chapter of National
\nStrategy Inspectorate M. Ismail has asked the Bekasi regency to
\ntake stern action against the regency's developers building
\nprojects not in line with specifications.<\/p>\n
\"Project officers and consultants should reprimand
\ndevelopers who violate project agreements, rather than just hide
\ntheir mistakes,\" Ismail said in an evaluation meeting with the
\nBekasi branch of the Indonesian Developers Association and
\nofficials of Bekasi administration on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Ismail said that many of the regency's projects were
\nconstructed by developers haphazardly, as can be seen from their
\nquality.<\/p>\n
\"There are a lot of projects which are already in bad
\ncondition, even though they were built only one year earlier.
\nMoreover, many developers have filed misleading reports on the
\nprogress of their project's construction,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The developers, for example, reported that they had
\ncompleted the construction of a certain project. However, when
\nthe administration inspected the location, the construction was
\njust reaching the 40 percent completion stage, he added.<\/p>\n
Ismail said that among developers who have violated the
\nproject agreements, are CV Edison Putra Sulung, CV Mega
\nNusantara, CV Wahana Pembangunan and other companies owned by H.
\nAchmad.<\/p>\n
Ismail added that the total cost of projects handled by
\nthose developers reached Rp 1.58 billion (US$718,180).<\/p>\n
He reiterated that the regency should not hesitate to take
\nfirmer action against those developers. \"Just revoke their
\nlicenses and put them on trial because their actions cause the
\nstate to suffer losses,\" he added.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Bekasi Regent Moch. Djamhari was angry at
\ndevelopers who handled the renovation of six elementary school
\nbuildings, including SD Pulau Puter and SD Karang Bahagia.<\/p>\n
According to a spokesman for the regency, Yaya Rutyatnasih,
\nthe regent criticized the developers for the quality of the
\nconstruction and for the usage of low standard materials in five
\nof the six buildings.<\/p>\n
Djamhari also threatened, as punishment, not to give other
\nprojects to the delinquent developers in the future.<\/p>\n
The developers argued that the limited availability of funds
\nto renovate the buildings forced them to use poor quality
\nmaterials.<\/p>\n
\"We cannot meet the quality standard drawn by the project
\nagreements because the project fund is calculated based on prices
\nset last year, when the building materials were still cheaper,\"
\none of the developers told The Jakarta Post. (12\/yns)<\/p>",
