The Bekasi Regency Government, West Java, is preparing a\ndigital-based monitoring system as an early detection tool or alarm to\nprevent volatility in basic commodity prices, with the aim of\ncontrolling the regional inflation rate.<\/p>\n
The system is being developed to establish an inflation early warning\nsystem capable of reading price changes as well as the stock conditions\nof essential goods at the distributor level.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is an improvement on the system that has been implemented since\n2018. We are now developing it further so that price monitoring and\ninflation control can be carried out more quickly and in an integrated\nmanner,\u201d said Helmy Yenti, Head of the Basic and Essential Commodities\nDivision of the Bekasi Regency Trade Office, in Cikarang, Bekasi\nRegency, on Monday.<\/p>\n
He explained that the system works by integrating price monitoring\ndata from markets with distributor stock report data, allowing the local\ngovernment to detect potential shortages that could trigger price\nincreases at an early stage.<\/p>\n
When a decrease in stock occurs, the system can provide an early\nindication of potential price hikes. This enables the government to take\nanticipatory measures without having to wait until prices have already\nrisen.<\/p>\n
He admitted that the testing of the digital monitoring system\nintegration has currently reached 8ly% completion. Several refinements\nare ongoing, including feedback from consultants, with a target for full\noperation within the next two months.<\/p>\n
Helmy described this digital system as containing all daily\nmonitoring worksheets conducted by Regional Technical Implementation\nUnits (UPTD) from Regions 1 to 9, as an effort to ensure every piece of\nfield data can be documented and accounted for.<\/p>\n
\u201cUPTD officers conduct monitoring every day. That data is then\nentered into the system to be verified before being published. Thus, the\ndata reaching the public is truly based on the results of field\nmonitoring,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
The system consists of two main integrated modules. The first module\nis a public price monitoring module that can be accessed by the\ncommunity via an online website, while the second module consists of\ndistributor stock reports, which are internal and confidential.<\/p>\n
\u201cDistributor stock data is a trade secret and must not be published.\nWe still integrate that data for internal analysis needs, whereas price\ninformation can be accessed by the public,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Through this system, the department aims to significantly reduce\nresponse times regarding price and availability issues. Whereas\npreviously it took approximately six days, the system can provide a\nresponse in just two days.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis speed is important because the government must be able to\nperform market interventions as quickly as possible when there are\nindications of disruptions to the price or availability of essential\ngoods,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The system is also expected to be utilised by the public as a guide\nfor up-to-date and more accurate price information. The availability of\nofficial information will also help reduce the spread of misinformation\nand prevent panic during issues of price increases or commodity\nshortages.<\/p>\n
The Bekasi Regency Trade Office is also working to ensure that the\nprice monitoring module is available via the Play Store so that the\npublic can access price information more easily through mobile\ndevices.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe hope is that the public will find it increasingly easy to obtain\nofficial and up-to-date price information.
