        "content": "<p>Bejing, Manila to discuss Spratlys<\/p>\n<p>MANILA (AFP): Philippine foreign department officials hope to<br>\ndiscuss with their Chinese counterparts over the weekend recent<br>\nevents in the disputed Spratlys island chain, a foreign official<br>\nconfirmed yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Foreign Undersecretary Rodolfo Severino will leave for<br>\nLangkawi in Malaysia tomorrow for the senior officials' meeting<br>\nof the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), the official said.<\/p>\n<p>The visit to Langkawi is an opportunity for Severino to meet<br>\nwith Chinese officials on the sidelines of the ARF meeting to<br>\ndiscuss diplomatic protests Manila and Beijing hurled at each<br>\nother over alleged intrusions in the Spratlys and surrounding<br>\nreefs which are claimed by both countries.<\/p>\n<p>Manila protested to Beijing on May 7 that four armed Chinese<br>\nvessels approached two islets garrisoned by Philippine troops in<br>\nthe Spratlys.<\/p>",
